I saw this from SDCC and knew immediately it was your work. Fantastic piece and congrats!
Ah, wow! Two awesome worlds colliding. Congrats on the new job!
This is gorgeous!! Wow! Love it! ^__^
I've been a long time fan, collected your Sky Between Branches and NYX to name a few but this, THIS, solidifies both my fandom of your works and the Avatar series.
This is really awesome and all, but what's that little box near the bottom right?
You made my day! What a piece. Very, very cool.
Very beautiful work =) Congratulations and good luck on your new job!
And now I know why that image jumped out as being so wonderful and appealing. Fantastic work, Josh.
Wow! Great news.
Hearing that you're joining them makes me SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!
Blown away by this piece. So fantastic!
Wow, that's so totally awesome!
F.Y.I. I've made this image my wallpaper on my phone.
Joshua while I love everything about your work I really love your backgrounds. Do you use Painter for them? Those clouds look so nice. I love the clean crispness of your line and characters with the naturalistic looser (but still somehow clean) finish of your backgrounds. I think my favourite background of yours is that wraparound green book cover piece with the blonde fairy and boy and girl and green misty forest backdrop. It reminds me of all the stuff I love about Edmund Dulac. Are you a fan of that guy?
beautiful work, and I can't wait for that show to come out! Just make sure M. Night promises to leave it alone!
Oh snap! Love the illo and am changing my pants as I type from the excitement brought on by this news!
Thanks so much for the really nice comments, everyone!Craig- I do occasionally mess around in Painter, but 98% of my stuff is done in Photoshop, including this piece. The primary reason I lean on Photoshop is the superior speed and stability, and also that I enjoy the lack of realism in the way that PS applies color- Painter can produce some fairly convincing brushes, but if I really want to paint, I tend to use real paint. The real trouble with Painter is that even after all of these years, its interface is a mess, and it still chugs even on top-end machines. Painter 12 seems to be a step in the right direction, however, so I'll keep playing around with it.Keep in mind that for my approach to color and digital painting, really almost any program will do the job. They all have the basic tools to do what I do, you just have to spend some time with them to figure out what works.
Oh, and yes, I am a big fan of Dulac, as well as Rackham, Nielsen, and others of their ilk. Their work and the folklore it draws on just sings to me.
Do you have any of these left? Great work!
Laura H- I didn't even get one myself! Nickelodeon only had a handful printed, and it sold out right away. Maybe if we're lucky, they will eventually reissue a bigger print run.
So exciting! Ahhh! :D
Love the pose. She looks very regal.
oh man!!! THE LAST AIRBENDER: LEGEND OF KORRA is going to be awesome!!!
I demand a bigger print run, now! Or at least one for you! This is gorgeous!
and just like that, I have a new phone wallpaper! Thanks Josh.
This looks fantastic! Can I ask what exactly you're going to be doing on the show? BGs, promotional illustrations, etc.?
Danny Araya- I will be the art director for the second season of the show (14 episodes). We're going to keep pushing the art and design as far as it will go.Thanks again for all of the great comments, everyone.
Mixed emotions of jealousy/envy/and excitement! Fantastic work my friend. Great opportunity to work on a great show!
Congratulations on the Korra gig! I don't think there's a show I'm looking forward to watching more. That poster is beautiful, and I hope they decide to issue another print run so I can get one!
A:TLA is one of my favorite series and you are my favorite comic artist! My dreams = come true.
If any of my novels ever go to market I'm going to hound you + my publisher to make your work appear on/in my work. Seriously.
Jesus Josh, This stuff is really amazing. It resonates with me on a deep level. -lifelong fan
